Anna Leigh Ashford
Annaleigh Amanda Ashford (born April 14, 1980) is an American performer, actor as well as a dancer. Her first Broadway performances, she starred her role in Wicked Legally Blonde Hair. Her role as Essie Carmahiel in You Can't Take It With You as Essie Carmahiel earned her the Tony Award in Best Featured Female Actress in the Play. Annaleigh has worked on projects with award-winning director as well as actors and producers for most of her career. Ashford will be next seen alongside Kumail Nannjiani in Robert Siegel's Hulu Limited Series Welcome to Chippendales premiering November 22. Ashford is currently involved in Searchlight Pictures' horror film Dust with Sarah Paulson alongside Ebon and Moss Bachrach. As an Hulu Original, the film will be available on Disney DTC's platform. Ashford will be seen opposite Josh Groban on Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre during the march 2023 production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. Thomas Kail, director and producer of Hamilton is the director of the show. Ashford played Paula Jones most recently in Ryan Murphy's FX's American Crime Story Impeachment, based off the scandal that included Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky Linda Tripp in the nation crisis. She starred in two seasons on the hit CBS comedy B Positive. It was created by Marco Pennette Chuck Lorre with the legendary Linda Lavin Hector Elizondo Ben Vereen. Ashford, who is not familiar with Broadway won both Tony Drama Desk Awards as well as Outer Critics Circle Awards in her character in the role of Essie. Some other Broadway roles for Ashford are Sunday in the Park, with George Wicked legally Blonde, as well as the role of Lauren in Kinky Boots. For this performance she received an Tony Award nomination. Ashford lives in Los Angeles & New York. Her birthplace was in Denver and was raised in Denver.
